$31M Mega Millions ticket sold in Woburn earlier this year finally claimed, lottery says

BOSTON — The $31M Mega Millions jackpot ticket sold in Massachusetts for the January 31 drawing, was finally claimed on Wednesday, according to Mass. State Lottery officials.

S & L Trust, represented by trustee Leo J. Cushing, chose the cash option on its prize and received a one-time payment of $16,542,158 (before taxes).

The winning ticket was sold at Gibbs gas station on Winn Street in Woburn and matched all six numbers drawn - 07-09-18-29-39, Mega Ball: 13.

“Oh, we did sell it? Oh, wow! I didn’t even know that,” a stunned clerk at Gibbs told Boston 25. “I wasn’t even supposed to work today. I was just filling in for someone. This is all news to me. I’m just shocked. This is really rare...This is pretty surprising.”

Gibbs gas station will receive a $50,000 bonus for its sale of the winning ticket.

This is the fifth Mega Millions jackpot won in Massachusetts since 2002, when the game expanded and its name was changed from The Big Game to Mega Millions, the Lottery said.

Just last week, a Mega Millions jackpot ticket worth $31 million was sold at a Stop & Shop in Belchertown. This is only the second time in Mega Millions history that one lottery has had two jackpot winners in a span of three drawings.

The largest Mega Millions prize ever won in Massachusetts is a $758.7 million jackpot won in August 23, 2017, drawing on a ticket sold at Pride Station & Store in Chicopee.

Mega Millions prize winners have one year from the date of the drawing to claim prizes. The jackpot prize must be claimed at Massachusetts State Lottery headquarters on Mount Vernon Street in Dorchester.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
