NAHANT, Mass. — There were two reported great white shark sightings off the coast of Nahant this week.

The first sighting was reported in the water just north of Castle Rock at Egg Rock shortly before 5 p.m. on Monday.

A boater snapped a photo of a shark fin breaching the water’s surface and uploaded the image to the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy’s Sharktiity app.

Sharktivity is a free app that allows users to upload photos and information about shark sightings.

The second sighting was reported in the water just south of Pea Island around 8:30 p.m. The app user who reported the sighting also made note of a breach.

Shark sightings are common off Massachusetts as the summer season heats up, but they’re typically most frequent in the waters near Cape Cod and the Islands.
