Shipments of Pfizer’s new COVID-19 vaccine reduced, state officials confirm

BOSTON — State officials confirmed Friday that the next shipment of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine will be reduced from 60,000 doses to about 42,000, less than a week after the first doses of the vaccine arrived in Massachusetts.

A spokesperson for the state’s COVID-19 Command Center said that they are in touch with the Centers for Disease Control to learn when additional shipments are arriving.

However, Pfizer has assured in a statement posted to it’s website that there are no issues with the production and distribution of the company’s COVID-19 vaccine:

Pfizer is not having any production issues with our COVID-19 vaccine, and no shipments containing the vaccine are on hold or delayed. This week, we successfully shipped all 2.9 million doses that we were asked to ship by the U.S. Government to the locations specified by them. We have millions more doses sitting in our warehouse but, as of now, we have not received any shipment instructions for additional doses.

The statement added that the company is confident that they will be able to deliver up to 50 million doses globally this year and up to 1.3 billion next year, and that they look forward to continuing to work with the government.
