SOMERVILLE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A 90-year-old woman was struck and killed by a FedEx truck Thursday morning in Somerville.
The incident happened at about 10:23 a.m. in the heart of Davis Square, at the intersection of Holland and Dover streets, across the way from Mike's Food & Spirits. The victim was identified as Helen Monagle, officials say. She was transported to Mount Auburn Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the truck was identified as Charles Reyes Fernandez, 24, of Melrose. He has not been charged, officials say.
âIt is unfortunate for the community that we have to report this accident. The exact circumstances of how and why this accident occurred remain under investigation and our condolences remain with the family and friends of the victim,â Police Chief Charles Femino said.
The investigation remains ongoing.
