Family of hit-and-run victim offers reward; victim’s dog still mourning

(ActionNewsJax) -- The family of Kelly Black made an impassioned plea Tuesday for information in the hit-and-run death that remains unsolved four days after it happened.

Black, 42, was killed Friday on Chaffee Road in west Jacksonville when she was hit by a possible semi-truck behind a Kangaroo gas station and dragged onto Beaver Street. Her dog, Paco, refused to leave her side after she was killed. An image of the dog lying in the street went viral after it appeared on ActionNewsJax.com.
Her brother, Troy Bostick, appeared with an attorney Tuesday and again asked the public’s help for information. They say the driver of the semi-truck had to know he struck and killed Black.
Based on the evidence, the driver “knew something was going on,” said attorney Daniel Iracki.
There is reportedly video of the incident captured by a Kangaroo camera, but that footage has not been released by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Black was killed around 6:15 a.m. Friday as she took her dog Paco for a walk. According to her family, Black’s dogs were one of the most important things in her life, and Paco is taking the loss especially hard. He is not eating and is having to be hand-fed by Black’s mother.
“[The] family needs this closure. Please help us,” Bostick said.
