DA identifies woman killed in Fall River car wash shooting, suspect turns himself in

FALL RIVER, Mass. — Authorities are charging a man with murder following a deadly shooting at a Fall River car wash Monday afternoon.

Officers responding to the Globe Car Wash on Broadway around 12:36 p.m. for a shooting found a woman who was pronounced dead by medical personnel at the scene, according to the Bristol County DA’s Office.

The victim has been identified as 45-year-old Jessenia Simmons of New Bedford.

Police say Angelo O. Leo, 33, of Fall River fled the scene of the shooting in a car but turned himself in to the Tiverton Police Department in Rhode Island about a half hour later.

The road was shut down while officers secured the crime scene.

It is unclear when Leo will be arraigned on the murder charge since he was taken into custody across state lines and would need to waive rendition.

The investigation remains ongoing.
