Police arrest man on Mass. Most Wanted list for assaulting infant

BELCHERTOWN, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Police arrested one of the state's most wanted fugitives, a man who allegedly broke an infant's ribs, early Wednesday morning.

Authorities placed Keith Truehart, 30, on the Mass. Most Wanted list after he allegedly assaulted a 9-month-old baby last November. Police responded to a home after receiving a report of a child injured from a fall. Responders found the baby with significant bruising to her forehead and around both of his eyes.

Paramedics initially treated the baby, Truehart's girlfriend's daughter, and then took her to a nearby hospital, where doctors found she had two rib fractures in the process of healing. They also found that the newest injuries were not accidental.

Police determined Truehart was alone with the infant at the time the child received the injuries. He fled before police and paramedics arrived.

Last week, Truehart was placed on the Top 10 Most Wanted Fugitives list after police announced they were still actively searching for him.

When FOX25 posted Truehart's mugshot on Facebook, it was shared more than 100,000 times and seen by more than 1 million people.

On Wednesday, police told FOX25's Bob Ward that the Massachusetts State Police violent fugitive apprehension section arrested Truehart at around 5 a.m. He was arrested back at his girlfriend's apartment in Belchertown, reportedly in a crawl space he made under the kitchen sink.

Truehart is wanted for two counts of assault and battery on a child with substantial injury, intimidation of a witness, and assault and battery. Click here to view his wanted poster.
