BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A former Uber driver who was arrested last December on charges of rape and kidnapping has been arrested in connection with multiple sexual assaults that occurred on the Esplanade and in South Boston.
Alejandro Done, 46, appeared in court last year on charges of rape, assault to rape, kidnapping, and two counts of assault and battery, in relation to an attack on a woman that happened earlier that month.
The same man has been identified from a DNA match to several attacks on women around the Esplanade in previous years. Done was charged in connection with five sexual assaults that took place on the Esplanade and in South Boston.
"The Massachusetts State Police crime lab then made certain that the known sample from Done matched the sample from the Cambridge victim," said Suffolk County District Attorney Dan Conley. "It was a direct link."
DNA evidence was used to link Done to four of those cases, to Done, and the fifth was through a witness description. The incidents happened in July of 2006, 2007, and 2010 on the Esplanade, and in Preble Circle and Moakley Park in South Boston.
Done remains in jail on charges stemming from the December incident.
In the December assault, Done allegedly drove up to a home on Tremont Street in Boston where a woman was waiting for an Uber driver.
The driver, Done, reportedly asked the woman for a cash payment and he stopped at an ATM for her. He then drove the victim to a secluded area and jumped in the backseat with the her.
He allegedly locked the car doors so she couldn't escape and covered her mouth so she wasn't able to scream before hitting and strangling her. He also allegedly sexually assaulted her during the struggle, police say.
"We thank the police and prosecutors for their continued vigilance. We are grateful that we were able to work closely with law enforcement to assist in their December 2014 investigation that has led to these additional charges," Uber Boston officials said in a statement.
According to Uber, Done passed a background check before he began driving for them last year.
