Crews begin to demolish unsafe homes on Plum Island

NEWBURYPORT, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Two Annapolis Way homes on Plum Island gave way to the tides and tipped over onto the beach as a result of the March winter storm.

The first home located at 41 Annapolis Way was ripped off its foundation Friday and the second home reportedly collapsed Saturday.

Crews began to demolish some of the homes that had been deemed structurally damaged around 10:30 a.m. It is estimated that at least a dozen homes that are at risk.

Another Plum Island home is expected to be demolished on Sunday.

A building inspector will head to Plum Island on Monday in order to identify the battered island's next steps.
