Confused drivers caught on camera going wrong way on Fenway Parkway

A Boston intersection is causing confusion for those traveling on the Fenway Parkway, as drivers were caught on camera on the wrong side of the road on a rainy night.

Jack Perry says he was traveling north on the Fenway when at least four other drivers got confused and drove on the wrong side of the street into oncoming traffic, and he shared video of the incident.

"It wasn't super clear that there's going to be traffic coming the other way," Perry said.

The confusion was recorded on his dash cam, and Perry said he's seen drivers make the mistake before, including himself.

"The lines are faded," Perry said. "It was raining, so the ground was slick. Those headlights coming off the road, you couldn't see anything."

The Fenway is a one-way until it meets Westland Avenue at a stoplight, and then becomes a two-way road. The problem then becomes the lack of signs to alert drivers of the change.

“I’ve seen a car turn into that street one time, and almost got into an accident with another car coming this way," Wilfredo Serrano said.

Boston 25 News checked with Massachusetts State Police, who said there have been at least 13 crashes in the area in the last two years, with two reported injuries.

The intersection is maintained by the state's Department of Conservation and Recreation, and a spokesperson said the agency "will dispatch roadway engineers to review the signage along the two roads to ensure proper driver visibility.

Perry said he thinks there's obvious things that need to be fixed.

"Newly painted lines, maybe," Perry said. "Some reflectors in the double yellows, maybe some signage would help.”

Perry also suggested everyone should slow down and keep their eyes on the road to avoid confusion.
