Charges dropped against 4 men accused of Framingham attack

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — Thursday afternoon in court the Assistant Middlesex District Attorney announced that all charges stemming from a reported attack in Framingham will be dropped.

The four men, all undocumented immigrants from Guatemala, had been accused of attacking a couple in Framingham on March 13 and raping the woman.

The man told police he had managed to fight his way inside the apartment where the men were with his girlfriend and call 911.

When police arrived the man and his girlfriend declined medical treatment.

In court, Assistant District Attorney Joseph Gentile said there were issues with the victim statements and there was not enough evidence to move forward with the charges.

"The commonwealth would not have evidence for which it could proceed in the prosecution on these matters,” Gentile said.

The victims were given attorneys, but refused to testify in court, invoking their fifth amendment right against self incrimination.

"There may be a reason that the version of events by the alleged victims was not true or problems with it,” John Daly, an attorney for one of the 4 suspects said.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement had placed detainers on all four men and said two had previously been deported but returned.
