Blue Line service between Maverick and Bowdoin resumes after power issue

BOSTON — Latest updates

9:38 a.m. - The MBTA says service has resumed on the Blue Line and buses are being phased out, according to a tweet.

The T says residual delays of up to 10 minutes will impact service, but hundreds of riders are still trying to get to their destinations on buses, or waiting for the next train.

Original story

Buses replaced T service on the Blue Line, between Maverick and Bowdoin stations Wednesday morning, due to a "power problem" near Government Center, the MBTA tweeted.

The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency website showed about 75 Eversource customers without power in the area around Government Center.

The power issue on the T is on the inbound track, between Aquarium and Bowdoin, Joe Pesaturo, an MBTA spokesperson said. The outage started around 8 a.m., during the rush of the morning commute.

Three trains were on the inbound track when the outage happened; one was on the platform at Aquarium; another was in the tunnel between Maverick and Aquarium and was moved back to Maverick so passengers could get off; and another was outside the station at Government Center with about 200 passengers who evacuated the train, Pesaturo said.

One rider tweeted a photo of passengers exiting a train and walking in a tunnel along the tracks, with help from an MBTA worker.

Another rider tweeted photos from a shuttle bus showing a large crowd of waiting riders outside Maverick Station.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
