Brookline firefighter allegedly drives drunk, crashes

BROOKLINE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) - A Brookline firefighter was driving drunk when he crashed into another driver and then left the scene, said Newton Police.

The crash happened early Saturday morning at along Lagrange Street in Brookline. The firefighter, Jeremy Joseph, allegedly crossed over the line and hit another car, nearly head on. Court records say Joseph got out of his SUV, surveyed the damage, and then got back in his car and drove off.

Police said he drove two miles down the road to Newton, where he was later arrested as he was walking away from his damaged SUV.

Police the person in the other car was extricated with the jaws of life, but is expected to recover.

Joseph is facing several charges related to the crash, including OUI, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and marked lanes violation.

FOX25 reached out to Joseph Wednesday, but he didn't want to comment.

The Newton fire chief said in a statement that Joseph is on paid administrative leave pending an investigation.
