'This city is insane': Father thankful son is alive after shot in the head

BOSTON — Two people have been arrested after a shooting in Dorchester Monday.

Boston Police Commissioner Evans says the shooting happened on Centre Street in Dorchester.

Evans tells Boston 25 News that the shooters were riding on a scooter and the person in the back was reportedly firing the weapon.

"He pulled in front of the house no sooner did he take the helmet off his head from his scooter, he turned and boom, that was it," said David Nave, victim's father.

The male victim, who David said is his son Anthony, was reportedly shot in the face and ran to Whitten Street before collapsing. He now is in the hospital with a bullet lodged in his head.

"Right here, lodged in his head, missed the temple by centimeters and it's lodged right there. They might leave the bullet, they have to do another scan to make sure there's no bleeding in there," said Nave.

Nave says his son Anthony doesn't live at their house anymore and had just stopped by his family's Centre Street home to visit his brothers. He was met by gunfire on the front steps.

"This city is insane. Kids are killing themselves, kids are killing each other," said Nave.

Nave says the suspects were arrested after crashing their moped nearby. Police say one of the suspects was wearing a GPS bracelet when arrested.

Police say the hail of gunfire put the entire community in jeopardy. One bullet ricocheted off a light pole, another pierced the window of a truck parked out front.

"When I heard the gunshots I rolled underneath my bed. It was pretty intense, I thought it was coming through the building," said Veronica McPherson.

"I know what any parent is feeling that has lost a kid or been shot, it's a feeling I wouldn't wish on the devil," said Nave.

Police identified one of the suspects as 19-year-old Kevin Woods of Boston. The other suspect is a 17-year-old male juvenile from Boston. Both teens are charged with armed assault with intent to murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, discharging a firearm with 500-feet of a dwelling and carjacking.

They will appear in court on Tuesday.
