BOSTON — A multi-family home in Boston partially collapsed Monday night while it was under construction.
The collapse happened on Winthrop Street in Roxbury just before 8 p.m. at a home that had been destroyed by a fire in 2014.
“It sounded like thunder. It could also sound like a plow coming down the street but it was just louder,” Samantha Higgins, a neighbor, said.
Higgins called 911, terrified that the building might collapse further.
“When we came out it was windy to the point of the window that's still up there was still shaking,” she said.
Strong winds and rain were a problem across the area and might be to blame.
“We did a primary search for any homeless men and woman that may have been in the building but it's an active construction site, a major renovation to a building that had fire a while back, it's under construction,” Dep. Boston Fire Chief Andre Stallworth said.
During the 2014 fire, one person was killed and another injured. No injuries were reported in the collapse Monday, but the building is a total loss once again.
