4 seriously injured after wrong-way crash along RI border

NORTH SMITHFIELD, RI — A Worcester man has been charged after allegedly driving the wrong direction on Route 146 in Rhode Island, causing a serious crash.

Rhode Island State Police said that 22-year-old Aleksandro Mihali was driving south in the northbound lanes of Route 146 around 3 a.m. Just after crossing the border from Massachusetts into Rhode Island, his 1987 Cadillac collided head on with a Honda Accord.

The driver of the Accord, 19-year-old Gabriela Reyes of Boston, and her passenger, 21-year-old Sonia Sandy of Worcester, were both taken to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries. Mihali and his passenger, 23-year-old Poliana Kristani of Worcester, also suffered serious injuries.

Rhode Island State Police charged Mihali with driving under the influence, resulting in serious bodily injury (three counts), and reckless driving.

The crash remains under investigation.
