Police responded to the Weymouth Common Apartments around 9:45 p.m. for reports of shots fired. The DA said 26-year-old Nicky J. Gomes and another victim in their 20s were rushed to South Shore Hospital with serious injuries. Gomes died at the hospital; the other victim remains hospitalized and is expected to survive, the DA said in a statement Wednesday.
Gomes was staying at the apartment complex and previously lived in Brockton, according to the statement.
The murder victim is also the suspect in a 2016 attempted murder in Sharon. Police there say Gomes fired several shots outside of a motel and then sped off.
State Police Detectives assigned to the DA's office, crime scene investigators and the ballistics unit all assisted with the large response to the shooting in the area of 81 Rockway Avenue. The apartment complex was locked down as officers looked for suspects.

A witness who lives on the fourth floor of a building near the shooting said residents were told by police to stay inside, and added, "It sounds very chaotic right now."
“Police have done a sweep of the area and it’s generally believed that the individual or individuals involved have left the scene," the DA said
A State Police source told Boston 25 News that police were looking for three suspects and a car involved in the shooting. A description of the car was not given.
Multiple sources told Boston 25 News a toddler was near one of the victims at the time of the shooting but was not hurt. State DCF officials say they are now looking into the incident because a child was involved.
The DA said the complex was locked down to ensure the area was safe and to preserve any evidence. It’s a large complex, so I think there’s an abundance of safety and caution so they knew who was coming and going," Morrissey said.
No suspects have been named yet by officials and the DA said Wednesday morning that no arrests have been made.
