Police searching for suspect in road rage incident after shots fired at car on Rt. 1 in Peabody

PEABODY, Mass. — The State Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a suspect in a shooting incident late Wednesday night. A 26-year-old woman was driving north on Route 1 in Peabody when her Mercedes sedan was shot at by another car driving by.

According to MSP a grey Toyota SUV began tailgating the Mercedes along Route 1 when the driver of the Toyota began aggressively trying to pass her in the area of the Holiday Inn, and the operator of the Toyota started shooting at the Mercedes. The driver of the Mercedes was the sole occupant of the car and was not injured in the shooting.

Police investigated and “documented and recovered ballistics evidence, including from inside the passenger compartment” of the woman’s car, police said.

State police said evidence suggests the shooter was a black male in his 20s, with a short “buzz cut” hairstyle who was wearing a black shirt. There was also a passenger in the Toyota who is believed to be a white female in her mid-20s with blonde hair. The suspect’s vehicle is believed to have a Florida registration plate.

This is an ongoing investigation with Mass State Police as well as Peabody police.
