Deja Mayfield is the weekend morning anchor and reporter at Action News Jax. She joined the team in March 2025. Before coming to Duval, Deja worked as a reporter and weekend morning anchor at WCTI News 12 in New Bern, North Carolina. Her journalism career has taken her to Washington, DC, where she worked in the Office of Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, and includes work she’s done for USA Today’s digital team. She is passionate about keeping her community informed, believes strongly in the power of education, and proudly represents her alma mater, North Carolina A&T State University. When she’s away from the newsroom, she enjoys spending time outdoors, exploring new places, and catching up with her loved ones. An investigation by The Associated Press and Cox Media Group Television Stations found that over the past 10 years, hundreds of school crossing guards — many of them of retirement age or older -- have suffered injuries on the job after being hit by a vehicle, and dozens of them have died.
