SOLON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Authorities are investigating after a 17-year-old boy shot his 12-year-old brother in an apparent hunting accident, officials with the Kent County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.
Deputies responded to a home in Solon Township just after 6 p.m. Monday.
Authorities said the 17-year-old was hunting from a tree stand when his younger brother went into the woods to call him home for dinner. Officials said the teenager mistook the 12-year-old for a deer and shot him with a rifle.
The younger boy was taken to a hospital where he was listed in serious but stable condition, deputies said.
Investigators said Tuesday that they do not believe drugs or alcohol played a factor in the shooting.
Officials continue to investigate.
