QUINCY, Mass. (AP) - The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority says the Quincy Center Station parking garage will be closed indefinitely after inspectors found water damage and patterns of concrete deterioration.
The MBTA announced on Tuesday that the structural problems do not affect the Red Line and commuter rail stations at the Quincy Center. The closure is effective Wednesday.
The MBTA says problems at the garage were discovered during weekly inspections. The T says it will work with Quincy city officials on any decisions on the future of the garage.
The MBTA says on its website that the Quincy Center garage offers 872 parking spaces, charging $7 per day and $8 for overnight customers.
The garage is never full, with the average weekday availability standing at 51 percent.
