Police: Sex offender tries to lure 10-year-old girl in Brockton by using his puppy

Police say a Level 3 sex offender tried to lure a 10-year-old girl away in Brockton by using his puppy.

The mugshot of Brian Swanson, a Level 3 sex offender living on Baker Street in Brockton, feet from a school bus stop, is already plastered around the Brockton Police Department.

Police say the 34-year-old touched the 10-year-old at the bus stop on Riverview Street.

"Now she's scared, and only trusts her family," the victim's mother said. "I don't know what's going to happen."

Last week, the child was waiting to head to school, when police say Swanson approached her with a dog.

"The guy with the little dog, Pookie," the mother said. "The dog's name is Pookie."

According to the police report Swanson allegedly said: "You have dirt on your pants," and made an attempt to wipe the dirt off.

Swanson then allegedly said, "I'll give you $100."

The little girl then ran home, staying close to her mother.

"She was holding me tight," the mother said. "Usually, when she goes to school, she's laughing. The principal and everyone is like, 'What happened?'"

A neighbor's surveillance cameras captured the entire incident.

"I saw the guy was talking to her, like close to her," the mother said. "They said, 'That's your daughter?' I said, 'Yeah.' I saw him close to my daughter, close talking."

Swanson is back in jail, but the mother is hoping they don't let him out, saying an ankle-monitoring bracelet won't cut it.

"I want him locked up, I have to watch my kids, I have other kids that I have to watch 24/7," the mother said. "It's not fair for him to be on the streets."

The 10-year-old told Boston 25 News she credits her mother and father for being so strict, and making her watch the show Law & Order, saying the show is teaching her about what's right and wrong.
