Police: Tire thieves hit 13 cars in 10 days

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Manchester, New Hampshire Police have been responding to back-to-back calls about tire thefts.

Cars are being left on blocks and the tires are gone. It only takes the thieves a matter of seconds to do this.

"We’ve had a rash of thefts from vehicles. Subjects are coming in, jacking the car, and stealing all of the wheels and rims," said Manchester Police Lt. Paul Thompson.

The suspects are propping up high-end cars and stealing the tires. So far, 13 cars have been hit in just a matter of ten days.

"It's happening between 3-6 in the morning, we believe. It could be earlier," said Thompson.

They believe there are two suspects.

The frustrating part about this is that the suspects are using the tools in your car.

"All of these vehicles have locks on them. They will break the window and go into the compartment. Take the tool to take the wheel off and utilize it from its own vehicle," said Thompson.

Police sent Boston 25 News a list of where and what kind of cars have been hit. The cars were anywhere from Hondas to Lexus-type models. The thefts are happening across Manchester, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts.

"They are taking milk crates and sticking it right under the wheel, repeat the process from one side to another," said Thompson.

As police step up patrols, neighbors are being asked to remain vigilant.

"Our hope is to get help from the community," said Thompson.

Police say they have surveillance video, but it is extremely grainy. They are asking the public to please call in with any tips. In the meantime, police say, don’t leave the wheel lock key in the car.
