A longtime Massachusetts State Police Sergeant has died from cancer.
Sergeant Maureen Wesinger-Lewis passed away Monday night.
Wesinger-Lewis was a state trooper for 31 years.
State police say she was a strong advocate for horses and police mounted units and spent the last five years of her career commanding the mounted unit.
Wesinger-Lewis is also credited with establishing a curriculum and training for the newly-created Worcester Police mounted unit.
Sgt. Wesinger-Lewis is survived by her husband, retired State Police Lieutenant Bill Lewis.
It is with deepest sadness that we announce the passing of Massachusetts State Police Sergeant Maureen Wesinger-Lewis...
