Popular Boston bakery closed this week for movie shoot featuring Damon, Affleck

BOSTON — A popular bakery in Boston will be closed for business this week to allow for the production of a feature film starring two Oscar-winning actors who were born in Massachusetts.

Bova’s on Salem Street in the North End will take a break from serving up their delicious breads, cakes, cookies, and pastries from March 20 through March 24 due to the filming of “The Instigators, the business said on its website.

There was also a noticed posted in the bakery’s window with the words, “BIG NEWS,” in bold font.

In an announcement sent to residents and business owners in the North End, Instigators LLC said that it would be filming portions of The Instigators on location at Bova’s beginning on March 22.

Instigators, an Apple Original film starring Matt Damon and Casey Affleck, “follows two thieves who go on the run with the help of one of their therapists after a robbery goes awry,” Deadline reported.

Filming will comprise both interior and exterior scenes and occur between 10 a.m. and 11 p.m., according to Instigators LLC.

During the movie shoot, Boston officials will be posting no parking signs on a number of streets in the area because a number of trailers, production equipment, and work trucks will be brought in.

The parking restrictions for preparation work and filming are as follows:

March 20 through March 24, 24-hour restrictions

  • Prince Street between Thacher and Salem streets
  • Commercial Street between Hull and Prince streets

March 21, 8 p.m. through March 22, midnight

  • Commercial Street between Foster and Charter streets
  • Prince Street between Salem and 28 Prince streets
  • Thacher Street between Prince Street and Lombard Place
  • Salem Street between Parmenter and Prince streets
  • 1/2 block of Salem Street from Prince Street to North Bennett Street
  • Cross Street between Salem and Sudbury streets
  • Cross Street loading zone between Salem and Sudbury streets
  • 1/2 block of Clinton Street from North and Surface streets

Residents affected by the parking restrictions will be able to park in the North End Garage.

“We are aware of the potential inconvenience caused by our activity and apologize in advance,” Instigators LLC said.

Online orders placed during the closure will not ship until Monday, March 27, Bova’s said.

The bakery will reopen on Saturday, March 25.
