DCR bans swimming outside designated areas at Walden Pond in Concord

CONCORD, Mass. — The Department of Conservation and Recreation announced Friday morning the decision to ban any swimming at Concord’s Walden Pond outside of designated swimming areas.

DCR says all park visitors are asked to swim only in areas designated by ropes and buoys and cease open water swimming.

This announcement follows after Gov. Charlie Baker filed legislation Thursday that would increase fines for swimming outside of designated waterfronts in the state. This is due to the latest increase in drownings that have occurred across the state in recent months.
