Canton man arrested after allegedly bringing handgun to Worcester high school

WORCESTER, Mass. — A Canton man is facing charges are allegedly bringing a handgun to a Worcester high school on Wednesday, Dec. 15.

Worcester Police told Boston 25 News officers were called to Doherty High School on Thursday, Dec. 16, to gather information about a parent who officials believe brought a firearm to the school on Wednesday at approximately 1:52 p.m. The man was allegedly looking for a student who supposedly was having issues with his daughter.

Police were able to identify the suspect, Jerome Weekes, 41, of Canton, following interviews with witnesses and gathering video evidence.

Officers confirmed that Weekes was seen Wednesday with a handgun inside his vehicle, which was parked outside the school. He then proceeded to enter the building with his daughter after classes were dismissed.

Police believe Weekes had an object in the front pocket of his sweatshirt. While inside the school, father and daughter started to search hallways and corridors before they both exited the building.

After further investigation, police developed probable cause to seek an arrest warrant for Weekes. Officers contacted the Canton Police Department regarding the warrant. Canton Police found Weekes Saturday, Dec. 17, and placed him under arrest.
