Southeastern Massachusetts communities prepare for upcoming snowstorm

PLYMOUTH, Mass. — The prepping has begun. People in places like Plymouth are very worried about the high tides during the storm. On the Cape, one town was trying to reinforce one of its beaches that was already dealing with some bad erosion. The state is bracing for what is expected to be a major winter storm.

Mashpee town manager Rodney Collins says they regularly replenish their beach but after seeing the forecast, the public works department scrambled to find some reinforcements. “They came up with a quick plan and vendors pulled through and we are delivering 1200 tons of sand to replenish the beach,” said Collins.

The sand is being dropped in the parking lot of South Cape Beach and is going to be dumped right along the dunes between the ocean and the lot. The town says earlier storms have already severely eroded the beach. “The objective was to avoid losing the parking lot or any portion,” said Collins.

Some people say the best way to adapt is to be ready for anything. “Get the shovels out and you get the car full of gas and then you, what do we say, breads and milk,” said one man.
