Convicted child killer Charles Jaynes up for parole

(MyFoxBoston.com) -- The Massachusetts Parole Board has set a July 2 parole hearing date for Charles Jaynes, one of two men convicted in the Jeffrey Curley murder case.

Jaynes was convicted in 1998 on second degree murder and kidnapping charges for the abduction and murder of 10-year-old Jeffrey Curley of Cambridge.

Robert Curley, Jeffrey's father, posted about the news to his Facebook page Monday evening.

"Here you have it folks be a pedophile kill a 10 year old boy and bring the state of Massachusetts to within one vote of bringing back capital punishment and 18 years later have a parole hearing on July 2nd coming up on a holiday weekend when everyone is on vacation and not paying attention. The Massachusetts criminal justice system at its finest."

The murder of Jeffrey Curley is one of the most notorious cases in Massachusetts history. The case brought the state within one vote in the legislature of re-instating the death penalty for the Commonwealth.

Charles Jaynes and Salvatore Sicari were convicted of abducting Jeffrey Curley near his home. When Jeffrey resisted the sexual advances of Charles Jaynes, the child was suffocated to death with a gasoline soaked rag. Jeffrey's body was transported to an apartment in Manchester, NH where it was sodomized. Jeffrey's body was discovered stuffed inside a Rubbermaid container at the bottom of a Maine river.

Salvatore Sicari was convicted of first degree murder, and is serving a life no parole sentence.

A few years ago, Charles Jaynes attempted to legally change his name. That request was denied.
