Brockton police: Man arrested for paintball attacks, 2 more sought

BROCKTON, Mass. - Police have arrested a man they say is responsible for a string of random paintball attacks in Brockton.

Brockton police say Victor Dos Santos, 18, is one of the people responsible for shooting paint balls in the city – including at one child who was hit in the eye.

“Police believe the New Bedford man is involved in at least three incidents that happened Monday, July 9,” a release stated.

According to authorities, Dos Santos and two others shot random people with paintballs on Spring Street, North Warren Avenue and Ford Street.

One suspect told police the group started off shooting each other and then progressed to shooting innocent bystanders.

Cody Hilts, the 12-year-old victim, told Boston 25 News earlier this month he was outside of his house when someone drove by and shot paint balls at him.

He said one of them hit him in the eye.

Hilts was seriously injured after getting shot in his right eye with a paintball. He currently has to wear an eye patch but hopes are high he will see again after extensive surgery.

Victor Dos Santos faces two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a child 14 or younger.

Police say Dos Santos has denied shooting any children. In all, three people were shot with paintballs, but the spree may have continued if it wasn't for the weather.

The three suspects allegedly dropped off the paintball rifle at a friend's house because it got "too hot" outside.

Officials are also searching for 20-year-old Djosue Dos Santos and another man.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Brockton Police at 508-941-0234.
