Braintree Police take 3 suspects into custody following manhunt

BRAINTREE, Mass. — Braintree Police said they have taken several suspects into custody after a town-wide search in Braintree on Tuesday.

At 2 p.m., Braintree Police said the driver of a black Kia had an active warrant for his arrest in connection to a shooting last month in Plymouth.

That driver and two others in the car got out and ran off toward Weymouth Landing, prompting a large search. Officers, K-9 units and the State Police Air Wing were called in to help with the search.

One was arrested quickly, but it took about two hours to arrest the other two.

State Police were forced to stop a Commuter Rail train on the Greenbush line to search the tracks, where they ultimately found the men.

School dismissals were halted in the area as police searched for the two. Braintree Police announced at 3:30 p.m. that releases were beginning but that there would be delays with buses.

"These guys had just arrived in Braintree, and we had a search going along the way where Greenbush line is, which is near three of our schools, and we didn't know the extent of the situation, we just felt we had to make sure the kids were in a safe environment," said Braintree Mayor Joseph Sullivan.

The suspects are being held at the State Police barracks in Norwell, but it's unclear what charges they face.
