1 dead, 2 injured in violent rollover crash on Storrow Drive

BOSTON — One person died and two others were seriously injured early Friday morning after a violent rollover crash on a section of Storrow Drive that was closed to traffic, according to state police.

The driver, identified as Alexander Galanis, 27, was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police responded to the eastbound side of Storrow Drive at Clarendon Street around 1:35 a.m. and found two passengers in the car. The car was resting on Back Street after rolling over and hitting a building, according to David Procopio, a state police spokesperson.

Procopio said the initial investigation suggests the driver drove on a section of Storrow Drive that was closed for the Esplanade event on the Fourth of July.

Evidence at the scene shows the driver likely went around the barriers blocking the Storrow Drive on-ramps at Charlesgate east, he said.

One of the passengers, a 32-year-old man from Fall River was transported to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston for treatment of minor injuries. The other passenger, a 38-year-old man from Cape Coral, Florida, was transported to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston for treatment of serious injuries.

State police said the investigation is ongoing.

It was previously reported that there were three passengers in the vehicle. State Police said there were two in a corrected press release.
