$1 million emergency loan fund for Cape Cod businesses after tornadoes

WEST YARMOUTH, Mass. — Businesses on Cape Cod are getting some help as they continue to recover from last week's tornadoes.

The Baker-Polito administration announced Tuesday a $1 million emergency loan fund.

The tornadoes touched down at the height of summer tourism season.

Now, the new fund will provide emergency money to small businesses so they can continue serving their customers.

The loans are already available to eligible businesses which can prove their losses.

Businesses can apply for loans between $5,000 and $50,000 dollars, with no payments for the first 30 days, and no interest for five months.

Gov. Charlie Baker also announced Tuesday funding for a new marketing campaign to bolster the Cape's recovery.

The Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism is dedicating $100,000 to the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce for that campaign.

The office's director said in a statement:

"The Cape has endured destructive weather and damage and, yet, has demonstrated a swift recovery in the immediate aftermath to ensure visitors can fully enjoy their time in this beautiful and vibrant place."

On Monday, the National Weather Service confirmed a third tornado touched down on the Cape last Tuesday.

Sky25 captured the damage in West Yarmouth.

Before last week, the National Weather Service said there were only three previous tornadoes ever recorded on Cape Cod.
