DYERSVILLE, Iowa — An Iowa woman is in the hospital after her toddler accidentally shot her with an unsecured handgun in a Dyersville home, authorities said.
According to the Telegraph Herald and KCRG, the incident occurred Wednesday evening at a home on Fourth Avenue Northeast. Dyersville police said the 2-year-old somehow gained access to the gun, which had been “left unsecured,” and shot the woman.
Emergency crews rushed the woman to a Dubuque hospital, then transported her by helicopter to another hospital in Iowa City, according to the news outlets.
Police said in a news release that they continue to investigate the case and may file charges, the Telegraph Herald reported.
