Bertucci's reportedly to file for bankruptcy

A New England favorite is reportedly preparing to file for bankruptcy.

Bertucci's is lining up a buyer to take over the company as well, a source to Bloomberg.

Bertucci's has been struggling to compete with fast-causal restaurants like Panera, said Bloomberg.

The company is based in Northborough, Massachusetts and has about 80 locations across the Northeast and down into Washington, DC, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

The first location opened in Davis Square in Somerville 35 years ago, featuring brick oven pizzas and pastas. By 1989 Bertucci's had gained national attention, being named one of America's top 10 pizza restaurants in USA Today.

Boston 25 News has reached out to the company for comment.
