10-foot shark tries to steal fish from family off of Monomoy Island

A Cumberland, Rhode Island family got quite the surprise after landing a big fish on a trip off of Monomoy Island.

The family was catching all sorts of fish on their trip, and were having fun doing so.

"It was awesome, we had a great day," Len Greiner, captain of the Magellan, said. "They just started biting like crazy, it was great."

However, unfortunately for them, sharks happen to have a taste for one fish they caught: a striped bass.

"He was hungry, and those guys got the thrill of a lifetime," Greiner said.

Greiner was about a quarter mile off the island with a group of farmers from Pennsylvania when he saw a shocking sight.

"That's a great white shark," Greiner said.

One of the fishers hooked a big one, and while reeling it in, a 10-foot white shark decided he wanted the fish.

"At one point, the shark had the striper all the way up to its gills," Greiner said. "He pulled real hard, and he snatched it out of its mouth."

The shark bit off the tail as an appetizer, and then got the main course.

"I was in awe," Greiner said.  "I thought it was great. It's what you see on TV, it's really neat."
