Driver in critical condition after tractor-trailer barrels into Bellingham home

BELLINGHAM, Mass. — The driver of a tractor-trailer is in critical condition after authorities say he veered off the road and barreled into a vacant home in Bellingham on Thursday morning.

Emergency crews responded to a report of a crash on Nason Street around 9:30 a.m. and found a truck hauling a piece of construction equipment lodged up against the back of the home, according to Bellingham police and fire officials.

First responders removed the driver from the truck and transported him to UMass Memorial Medical Center with serious injuries.

A dog that was riding in the truck emerged unscathed. No one else suffered injuries.

Police said that a preliminary investigation indicated that the driver was traveling east when he suddenly lost control, went off the road, and struck the home.

Police say it does not appear the driver used the brakes at all, but it is unclear if the driver had a medical issue.

Photos from the scene showed heavy damage to the rear portion of the house and splintered debris scattered all over the yard.

Eric Banks was drinking coffee on his back porch when the crash happened. “All of a sudden I just heard this loud truck and I looked up and it came flying through the front yard,” said Banks

The homeowners have since been notified of the incident.

The name of the company on the truck was “The Nice Company” out of Hopedale.

Boston 25 has reached out to check on the condition of the driver but we have not heard back.

The crash is under investigation.
