Fire in Lynn triple-decker displaces 17 residents

LYNN, Mass. — Firefighters battled a second alarm fire in a three-story residential building on Grover Street on Thursday night.

Intense flames could be seen shooting out of the top of the building.

The fire, which started at around 8:30 p.m. took firefighters hours to put out. While they battled the flames coming from the house, firefighters also had to deal with sub zero temperatures.

MBTA buses were used as warming shelters to help keep warm the 17 displaced residents.

The Lynn Fire Department said in a tweet that all of the home's occupants have been accounted for and there are no injuries.

One firefighter, however, was treated for a minor injury to his foot.

"The neighbors have been fantastic inviting some of the residents into their homes to stay warm so they're being cared for red cross is on the scene to provide them with any assistance they need clothing housing food anything like that," said Lynn Fire Chief Stephen Archer.

Fire officials announced on Friday afternoon the fire was caused by an electrical problem.

They said the fire started in the basement and traveled through the walls of the early 1900's home's balloon frame construction, which allowed the flames to spread quickly.
