PLYMOUTH, Mass. — The jury in the Lindsay Clancy triple murder trial listened to heart wrenching testimony in its first week, and ended with a jury view of key sites and more graphic testimony.
On Friday, the jury was showed up-close images of Lindsay Clancy’s self-inflicted cut wounds on her neck and wrists, made before she jumped out of a second-floor bedroom window in an alleged suicide attempt after strangling her children.
Prosecutors allege the wounds were superficial, but Lindsay’s lawyer, who says she was suffering from post-partum psychosis, believes the amount of blood found in the bedroom, and the wounds themselves reveal she meant to take her life.
Also taking the stand on Friday, two Beth Israel Deaconess Plymouth ER doctors who treated the children.
Lindsay Clancy got emotional when Dr. Benjamin Kaufman said his staff managed to restart baby Callan Clancy’s heart.
“His heart started beating after we were able to give that dose. At that point, we continued compressions, continued giving him breaths through the breathing tube,” Dr. Kaufman testified
“At any point in time, did he regain the ability to breathe on his own while he was in your care?” prosecutor Jennifer Sprague asked.
“No,” Dr. Kaufman answered.
Callan Clancy died several days later after being flown to Boston Children’s Hospital for treatment.
Callan’s brother and sister, Dawson and Cora Clancy, were declared dead soon after they were received at the Emergency Room
Earlier in the day, the jury went on a view of the Clancy’s former Duxbury home, where they were allowed to walk inside and see, among other things, the basement where the children were found.
They also drove by a CVS store in Kingston and the 3V Restaurant in Plymouth,
Those are the locations of an errand Lindsay sent her husband on, just before strangling the children.
Boston attorney Elyse Hershon told Boston 25’s Bob Ward that prosecutors carefully selected the sites.
“If I’m the prosecutor I’m trying to show how long this ride was that Patrick was on,” Hershon said. “They want the jury to believe she sent him away to a further away restaurant to get takeout and then added CVS and then home to give her time to commit these murders.”
Clancy’s lawyer is mounting an insanity defense. He contends Lindsay Clancy was in the grip of post-partum psychosis on the night of the children’s deaths.
He adds that she sought, but did not receive, proper mental health treatment in the weeks and months leading up to the deaths.
Lindsay Clancy did not attend the jury view.
Testimony resumes on Monday.
