22-year-old man dead after being shot by police at central Mass. home, DA says

WESTMINSTER, Mass. — A man is dead after being shot by police at a home in central Massachusetts on Monday afternoon, authorities announced Tuesday.

Officers responded to a residence on South Ashburnham Road in Westminster to serve an arrest warrant on a 22-year-old man shortly before 4:45 p.m., according to the Worcester District Attorney’s Office.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the man, who allegedly moved toward officers while holding a large knife.

According to the DA’s office, the officers discharged their firearms, striking the man and immediately rendering aid to him.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital and later transferred to a Worcester-area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No Westminster police officers were injured during this incident.

Investigators noted that it appeared to be an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the community.

According to the DA’s office, the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave in accordance with standard protocol pending the outcome of the investigation.

The incident remains under investigation.
