Boston 25 Weather

Clouds and showers return

RECORD WARMTH TUESDAY

After a taste of spring-like warmth today, temperatures will trend cooler tonight. Boston reached 75°, breaking the previous daily record of 71° set back in 1878. While it won’t be nearly as warm tonight, it will still be fairly mild for early March. Overnight lows drop into the upper 30s and low 40s, and areas of fog may develop, especially across southeastern Massachusetts.

UNSETTLED PATTERN, LOWER IMPACT

Clouds return on Wednesday, and while the day starts mainly dry, it will be noticeably cooler. Afternoon highs will climb into the low 50s after starting the day in the 40s. Showers develop later in the day, with the best chance of rain arriving during the evening commute.

That rain lingers into early Thursday, before tapering off. The rest of Thursday looks mostly cloudy with highs in the 50s. A cold front swings through later in the day, which could spark a brief shower or even a few flurries Thursday evening, but no accumulation is expected.

Behind that front, temperatures settle back closer to where they should be for this time of year. Friday highs return to the 40s, and similar temperatures continue through the weekend.

A weak clipper system passes through Friday night into early Saturday, which could bring a few flurries or a brief snow shower. At most, we’re talking about a patchy dusting, and many areas may see little to nothing.

NEXT WEEK

Looking ahead to early next week, a stronger system arrives Monday. At this point it looks like mainly rain for southern New England, with the potential for a wintry mix across parts of northern New England. Despite the unsettled weather, it will be mild again with highs in the upper 50s.

Overall, after today’s record warmth, we settle into a more typical March pattern with cooler temperatures and a few chances for precipitation over the next several days.
