Boston 25 Weather

Wintry mix late Thursday into Friday

FOG AND BLACK ICE TONIGHT

Fog will develop overnight across southern New England, and with temperatures dropping below freezing there’s a concern for a few slick spots early Thursday morning due to black ice. If you’re heading out early, keep that in mind on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses.

MIX OF RAIN, SNOW, AND ICE

Clouds return Thursday and we’ll see a few scattered showers at times through the day. Attention then turns to Thursday evening and overnight, when a Winter Weather Advisory goes into effect. As colder air settles in, precipitation will transition to a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain. That could lead to some slick travel late Thursday night into early Friday morning.

By Friday morning, much of the area will be dealing with a messy wintry mix of snow, ice, and rain. Roads could be slippery during the morning commute, and in some of the higher elevations there’s the potential for a bit more ice accumulation. That raises the possibility of isolated tree damage and a few power outages where ice builds up on branches and power lines.

The wet weather gradually moves out by midday Friday, but a northeasterly wind will keep temperatures cooler with highs only in the mid 30s.

WEEKEND IN VIEW

The weekend starts a little unsettled. Saturday could feature a spot sprinkle along with a mix of sun and clouds, with highs climbing into the upper 40s. A few showers are possible late Saturday into early Sunday before skies brighten Sunday afternoon. Temperatures will also warm up, reaching the mid 50s.

Even milder air arrives early next week with plenty of sunshine and highs pushing into the 60s.
