RECORD HIGH THURSDAY
The heat was furious Thursday afternoon and tomorrow will be no bargain either! Today’s high temperature of 101 in Boston was plenty to beat the former record high for the day of 98, set back in 1963! We’re expecting highs to reach or come close to triple digits again Friday, but the record high of 102 for the day may be tough to crack. Either way, it’s going to feel hotter than that with high humidity once again driving Heat Index values into the low 100s to 112! Limit your outdoor activities and do your best to stay hydrated.
As far as thunderstorms go tonight and tomorrow...most stay dry overnight, but a few rogue showers may slide through the area, some may be accompanied by strong wind and hail. We won’t find much relief under the cover of night either, lows are only dropping to about 80, that about where our average high temperatures should be!
Much of Friday is looking dry but from the afternoon through Friday night, a few more thunderstorms may crop up. Again, they could be accompanied by damaging wind, hail, and downpours.
THE 4TH OF JULY
Independence Day stays hot and humid, although temperatures won’t be quite as extreme as Thursday and Friday. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop, mainly during the afternoon as a cold front moves through New England.
The rain will be hit-or-miss, so not everyone will get wet, but any storm that develops could become strong with heavy rain, frequent lightning, and gusty winds. The good news is that showers and storms should taper during the evening, but we’ll be watching the timing closely for fireworks displays.
RELIEF ARRIVES SUNDAY
After several days of dangerous heat, much more comfortable air arrives on Sunday. High temperatures will return to the 80s with noticeably lower humidity, making it a great day to get outside. Most of the region stays dry with a mix of sun and clouds.
