School bus catches on fire on Rt. 95 in Canton

CANTON, Mass. — A school bus caught on fire Thursday afternoon while transporting students from Catholic Memorial High School.

The fire happened at around 3:30 p.m. on Route 95 north of exit 11 in Canton.

According to State Police, the fire happened in the engine compartment of the bus. A passerby who pulled over after seeing the fire used a fire extinguisher to put it out.

Canton firefighters responded to the scene and ensured the fire had been put out safely.

There were about 10 students on the bus from Catholic Memorial High School and a bus driver, who were all able to make it out of the bus safely. The students were members of the high school's golf team.

As students were evacuated from the bus, the school sent a second bus to pick them up.

No injuries were reported.
