Man accused of attacking police while high on synthetic weed

CONCORD, Mass. — A concerned mother said she called police after her son was acting erratically.

Police say they believe Jacob Randle, a Concord-Carlisle High School senior, was under the influence of synthetic marijuana, also known as Spice, a powerful narcotic is known to cause severe anxiety and in some cases violent behavior.

“It escalated officers were assaulted.  One officer was punched in the face and pushed off the front deck, suffered an injury to the back of his head,” Concord Police Chief Joseph O’Connor said. “Another officer suffered injuries to his throat where he was grabbed by throat and threatened

O’Connor says the 19-year-old even rammed his shoulder into a police car during the struggle leaving a noticeable dent.

Jacob’s mother, Julie Randle, said she believe this was the first time her son had used Spice.

“He was frightened, whatever was in that just made him fearful of everything,” she said.

Jacob's mom says he's faced a lot of struggles lately and she believes synthetic marijuana pushed him over the edge.

“This kid does not want to hurt anyone he's just a big teddy bear,” she said.
