Massive, wind-driven blaze destroys seaside home on South Shore

HULL, Mass. — Firefighters battled a multi-alarm blaze that destroyed a seaside home in Hull on Monday.

The fire at 5 Q St., which broke out around 5:38 p.m. Monday, drew mutual aid response from several other communities including Weymouth, Hingham and Hanover, said Hull Fire Chief Chris Russo.

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy fire on the first floor of the home, Russo said. Crews also encountered a lot of wind.

Luckily, nobody was inside the house when the fire started, Russo said.

No injuries were reported.

Parts of the house collapsed as firefighters attacked the fire with water hoses from various angles.

Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from extending to other houses in the neighborhood, Russo said. There were also no water supply issues as firefighters battled the blaze.

Video and photographs captured the house fully engulfed in fire, with thick flames billowing through most windows in the house.

Details on what may have sparked the blaze were not immediately available.

The state Fire Marshal is also responding to the scene, Russo said.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
