Woman suffers serious burns, smoke inhalation after fire breaks out in Acton home

ACTON, Mass. — A house fire in Acton sent a woman to the hospital with serious injuries on Monday night, officials said.

Crews responded to a fire on Washington Street shortly before 8 p.m. and made entry into a single-family home. Firefighters encountered clutter inside the home, which made fighting the fire difficult, according to Chief Robert Hart.

Firefighters located a woman on the second floor of the house suffering from serious burns and smoke inhalation, according to Chief Hart. The woman, who Chief Hart says was semi-conscious when found, was flown to an area hospital by medical helicopter due to the severity of her injuries.

The fire appears to have started in a kitchen area on the second floor of the home, according to officials. Crews were able to contain the fire damage to that one room, but officials say there is smoke damage throughout the house.

Fire crews from several towns responded to assist with fighting the fire, according to officials.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.
