FBI Boston releases photos of Mass. man on the run for 37 years

The FBI has released new photos of a man wanted for a 1980 murder.

"These photographs present Donald Webb in a completely new way," said Special Agent Thomas MacDonald. "The face of this investigation for decades was grainy black and white photos," he said.

Saxonburg, Pennsylvania Police Chief Greg Adams was shot twice after being beaten on his head and face on Dec. 4, 1980. Donald Eugene Webb, who was living in New Bedford, Massachusetts at the time, is accused of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. There has been a warrant for his arrest since Dec. 31, 1980.

Webb is one of the longest tenured fugitives to appear on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list.

Webb's wife now lives in North Dartmouth and the attorney for Adams' family believes the wife could be covering for him. Webb would be 85 years old today if he's still alive.

FBI detectives reportedly found a hidden room in the home and a cane that could belong to Webb, said the attorney, Tom King.

Adams’ wife has recently filed a civil suit against Webb’s wife and his son to get them to talk, according to King. Adams was only 31 at the time of his death and left behind two young children.

WHO WAS DONALD WEBB?

The FBI said that Webb is a career criminal and went by many different aliases over the years, including: A. D. Baker, Donald Eugene Perkins, Donald Eugene Pierce, John S. Portas, Stanley John Portas, Bev Webb, Eugene Bevlin Webb, Eugene Donald Webb and Stanley Webb.

He specialized in jewel theft, operating out of Providence and southern Massachusetts, said the FBI. He reportedly was friends with the Rhode Island Patriarca crime family. They believe he was in Pennsylvania planning a robbery at the time of Adams' murder.

Webb is reportedly allergic to penicillin, a lover of dogs, a flashy dresser and a big tipper.

He's described as 5-foot-9, 165 pounds with brown eyes and gray-brown hair. He may have a small scar on his right cheek and right forearm. He also may have "Don" tattooed on his right hand and "Ann" on his chest.

“It might be that someone out there doesn’t know that the person they got to know in the 1990s and early 2000s was Donald Webb, and that could help us resolve this case,” MacDonald said.

The FBI is offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to the whereabouts of Webb or the location of his remains. Tips can also be submitted online.
