Warming up, watching storm Friday

FINALLY THAWING OUT!

After a cool start this morning, but we’re finally turning a corner. Temperatures will rebound nicely this afternoon, topping out in the mid 40s — much closer to where we should be for mid-December. It’ll feel noticeably better compared to recent days, especially if you can catch a little sunshine.

The milder air sticks around. Highs reach the upper 40s on Thursday, then jump into the 50s on Friday. Enjoy it while it lasts — this will be the warmest stretch we’ve seen in a bit. Thursday during the day looks like the best window for outdoor plans before the weather turns more active Thursday night.

WEATHER ALERT FRIDAY

A strong storm system moves in late Thursday night and continues into Friday. Expect periods of heavy rain and increasing winds. Rainfall totals will generally range from 1/2″ to 1″, with a few higher amounts possible. Plan for wet roads and puddles, we are watching the threat for minor urban or poor-drainage street flooding, especially during the Friday morning commute.

Winds will also be a big story. Gusts up to 55 mph are possible, with the strongest winds on the Cape and Islands, where a High Wind Watch is in effect for Friday. Minor damage and isolated power outages are something to keep in mind. This is a good time to secure holiday decorations, trash barrels, and anything loose around your yard.

CHILL RETURNS THIS WEEKEND

Once the storm pulls away, cooler air moves back in for Saturday. It won’t be brutally cold, but you’ll definitely notice the change after Friday’s warmth.

We’re also keeping an eye on some potentially unsettled weather heading into next week. It’s too early to pin down details, but expect a more active pattern to continue. We’ll fine-tune that forecast as we get closer.
