FRIDAY STORM

It will be wet, windy and warm today with all day 50s in the Boston area.

Periods of moderate-heavy rain will arrive by late morning and peak through early afternoon. Downpours and damaging gusts 50-60 mph will be the biggest threats 10 AM to 3 PM, and especially lunchtime.

Scattered, minor wind damage is probable with this level of wind. We’re talking potential power outages, tree damage, and damage to any holiday decor that may not be secured.

Flooding is unlikely with 1/2″ to 1″ rainfall, but may become a brief road hazard with passing downpours and lowered visibility. Many of you will see dry weather for the PM commute and Friday night events - just keep in mind some spotty rain/snow showers will linger in southern New England until 10 PM as those evening temperatures drop.

CHILL RETURNS THIS WEEKEND

Saturday will feel more seasonable with sunny morning 20s and afternoon 30s with scattered clouds. Sunday will be a bit milder with temperatures in the 40s (for the first day of official Winter!). You may see a rogue sprinkle or flurry, but nothing measurable is anticipated.

CHRISTMAS WEEK

Highs in the 30s are expected next week, leaning into a more winterlike feel. A quick disturbance Tuesday looks to bring in some light snowfall. It doesn’t look like much, perhaps a coating to an inch or two locally.

For now it looks quiet and dry Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
