BOSTON — Marie Merisier, 33, faced a judge for child endangerment and attempted murder charges Monday.

She’s accused of dumping her newborn baby in a trash can in Dorchester last Friday.

Merisier is now being held on a $100,000 cash bail, and the judge ordered her to have no contact with the baby, who’s now in DCF custody.

“EMS found a newborn male baby inside of two knotted plastic grocery bags,” said Audrey Mark, the assistant district attorney during the arraignment Monday.

Prosecutors said before this, Merisier was visiting a man she knew to cook or clean for him.

That man told police Merisier showed up clearly pregnant and went into the bathroom for about an hour.

“This gentleman witness heard noises from the bathroom and at some point heard a baby crying,” said Mark.

This witness told police when Merisier walked out of the bathroom, she was carrying a brown leather bag.

“And the witness heard crying coming from inside that bag she was carrying,” said Mark.

That witness tried to call her an ambulance, but he said she left the apartment.

Then, prosecutors found video surveillance outside Pat’s Pizza on Dorchester Avenue, showing Merisier dumping a plastic bag from her leather bag into the trash.

“I was like, I hear crying from this trash can, I need to come and look inside for me because I’m not gonna, I was too scared,” said Silvana Sanchez, who was walking by when she heard that baby crying in the trash barrel.

She waved over EMS, who found the baby boy inside those plastic bags and rushed him to a hospital.

Prosecutors say the defendant told police she thought the baby was dead and didn’t have anything for the baby.

Merisier is due back in court for a probable cause hearing at the end of this month.
