Suspect in custody after police pursuit across Merrimack Valley

A suspect is in custody after Massachusetts State Police assisted in a police pursuit across several Merrimack Valley communities.

Police said troopers were notified around 4:30 p.m. Friday afternoon that North Andover Police were chasing a vehicle on I-495 northbound in Haverhill.

Mass. State Police said the same vehicle had been involved in an earlier pursuit with Haverhill Police that was terminated earlier in the afternoon, and North Andover Police said the driver had tried to strike a Haverhill Police officer.

A trooper caught up to the pursuit in the area of Exit 53, and several minutes later, the fleeing suspect avoided stop stick tire deflation devices before the I-95 interchange, and exited the highway in Salisbury.

The woman entered Main Street, and Mass. State Police ended its pursuit while notifying local police of where the driver was heading.

The suspect was reportedly later pursued by Amesbury Police onto I-495 southbound, and the Mass. State Police Air Wing provided overflight support during the chase.

The suspect exited the highway in Westford, where it was finally stopped and the driver was taken into custody by local police.

There were no immediate details about the suspect involved.
